Discussion Point 4-File Prep

I found that I am limited in my understanding of technical terminology in document prep for printing in terms of borders and indentations.
Terms include:
Crop mark-identifies where to trim
Bleed area-rule of thumb-the bigger this area the better-allowing for unexpected bleeding
Live Area -"safe" area for work for trimming, binding
Trim Line-final size of the work
I found a great resource online at the design instruct website which illustartes clearly where each area is positioned:

Using the rounded rectangle tool

These areas define the page layout and the positioning of your overall work, which prevents errors being made-cutting work of the page, ink bleeding beyond guidelines, cutting work that is positioned outside trim lines, defining where the work should be placed to avoid this.

This reduces so many errors for designers and means that they can print their final piece more efficiently and with minimal risk.

Applying these grids and guidelines from the beginning of the work proves the most beneficial, as you wont run the risk of destroying the size or contents of your piece and it shows the guides throughout the process, to keep within the constraints.
