Week 9

Well done to those of you who have made posts this week in response to the Discussion Point - Please hurry to do so if you haven't yet made the time. Don't forget the online involvement in the course is assessable. As you will see from this week's lecture the expectation continues for your contributuons in response to the lectures.

This week we are releasing a new lecture on some of the contextual and cultural considerations of type rather than the more specifically technical content we've been looking at. Similarly to the last lectures there are some points for discussion.

Discussion Point: Select two innovative typographic designers - one pre-digital (1984), the other contemporary. Provide a brief comparative analysis of their contributions to typographic practice supported by relevant examples of their work. Post your response to the Studio Blog.
Studio: Feedback and selection of appropriate grid systems for the group to adopt in the development of the Project 2 publication; Group roles allocated: identify and allocate tasks and processes for production of the publication in print and screen versions, including a Project Manager/Publisher.
Self-directed: Each pair/team to select an appropriate grid system to develop and identify and develop content according to the possibilities indicated in the brief.

This week's additional material refers to both last week's content on grids and has a cultural dimension too in that it looks at one of the most influential Dutch Designers Wim Crouwel. This is a great insight into Crouwel's application of the grid.
